T minus 2 years//Don't believe a thing

In the 1987 movie Running Man, Arnold Schwarzenegger is imprisoned in a game show to fight for his life. (Rotten Tomatoes rates it at 67% and that seems about right.). He's convicted of a crime based on video footage that is not real. What was implausible in 1987 has now become a clear and present danger. AI technology is giving us the tools to recreate art, voices, translations, syntax, and graphic design. The video cousin to ChatGPT is quickly emerging as a formidable force. (The Sora videos are incredible.)

But I think where we land on all of the AI video trend is: We won't believe anything. Real or fake or in between, we'll believe nothing. It's not that we will accept everything; we won't believe a bit of anything.

The effects might include:

-a cynical audience

-people who get away with things (Because it's so hard to catch people, who will believe it when perpetrators get caught?)

-Getting "caught on tape" will be a thing of the past

We will believe no one, no product, no car, no fire. We will be left numb, with the feeling that everything was probably created with video AI.

And the greater lesson will be that truth is not discernible and will be more malleable than ever. Indiscernible and undiscoverable.

And two years might be a generous prediction.  Disbelief might come even sooner.

The film is based on a Stephen King book:
