Workouts: What You don't know

A couple of months ago, I did a workout that I had done hundreds of times before. But I wanted to try something new, so I tried it without any food. I intentionally fasted, and the workout was….a challenge. I could barely make it through the program. Honestly, it wasn't even my muscles that hurt; it was my head that was so fuzzy I could hardly concentrate.  


When you see other people working out, you don't know what they had to eat. Maybe they're fasting. Maybe they're injured. You don't know what they ate, how they're hurt or what workout they did earlier that week. My workouts start on Sunday and go through Friday. And if you saw me moving slow on Tuesday, it's because I'm three workouts deep that week and feeling the fatigue of monster workouts Sunday and Monday. So, by the time I get to Wednesday, I have a lighter day as a type of rest. If you were to see me on the treadmill incline walking, you might judge me but that's a recover day for me. By Friday, I'm usually very fatigued.   


When you see other people's workouts, be wary of the judgments that might arise. You don't know what's going on with their fatigue, their iron levels, their gallbladder, or their knees.  There is so much we don't know.

Workouts: What You Know


You never know what people are dealing with when they workout. But You always know what you're dealing with. And your lizard brain will make a laundry list of excuses for you. I pile up a list of why I can't go hard today. I'm sick, hurt, tired, older, it's too cold, it's too hot, I already did a monster workout last week, it doesn't matter if I tap the brakes this week.  Knee, ankle, back, shoulder, there's always something. 


But with your workouts, don't fall for the excuses. What you know is the excuses. But go anyway. Push even though you're fully aware of the challenges.
