WALK OUT

[Reading time: 1 minute, 26 seconds. 288 words.]

In 2010, I lost 40 pounds. People asked me that famous question, “How did you do it?” But the answer was really boring and simple. I used an app on my phone to track calories. And sometimes, I jump up a few pounds on the scale. It’s frustrating to be in a place where you know you need to lose weight. But I “walked in” to that unfavorable situation. I walked into a situation that took me a while to get to. I didn’t just magically appear here, and I can’t magically leave.

In the last couple of years, I’ve taken up hiking. There’s no feeling quite like being a day away (or daysssssss) away from my truck. There’s only one way out. You gotta walk out.

There are areas where I know I need to move….

-Fitness areas (balance on my right side lower body is not where it needs to be)

-Financial areas (maybe I need to be saving more or more intentional about small expenses)

-Emotional areas (I can’t just rewire my strong errant feelings in a day)

-Spiritual areas (learning to pray, meditate, and memorize scripture is a skill learned over years)

-Relational areas (family patterns and vulnerability takes effort to build)

In today’s fast, fast world, we’re not used to walking. We drive fast and we fly fast and things are delivered to us fast.

But in many areas, the only way to get out is to walk out. There’s no driving, flying, or sprinting. Just walking.

You walked in. Walk out.
